Skin care, something so important yet so underestimated by many.
There are quite a few products on the market for any skin type, concern, and age. Of course anyone can recommend a product, but not many people actually know the proper way of applying all these different products. There is actually a whole science on what should go after what, so if you need some skincare education then today is your lucky day!
Alright let us start with the obvious–removing your makeup. How much makeup you wear on a daily basis will determine if you need to double cleanse. Many people can be against double cleansing–however it’s a great way to make sure all the makeup that has sunk in your pores is gone. First, you would use a makeup removing cleanser and then the regular face cleanser.
Here are some great suggestions for makeup removers that have worked so well for me:
I love this one because it is so easy to use. Just spray it all over the face and massage in. Then rinse your face with warm water–could it be any easier? It is also non-greasy and doesn't burn your eyes!
If you know me, you know it's a Tatcha For Life situation here. I love all their products and this cleansing oil is amazing because once you rinse it off, you feel like you never even applied any oil and your face has a perfect balance of moisture. Of course, the most important pro is that it removes the makeup flawlessly!
The next step in our skincare routine is cleanser. The type of cleanser you need really is determined by your type of skin. I will name a few I like, however they might not work for your skin type. I always suggest either googling what the best cleansers for your skin type are or going to Sephora for some exploring!
This cleanser has a great texture to it as it feels like a scrub and then turns into a foamy texture. This one is actually good for all skin types!
Another good line is Ole Henriksen. This brand has many different skin concern cleansers that can suit anyone.
Next up are toners! Toners help remove any extra dirt/makeup from our pores to ensure we do not leave anything that should not be left on our face overnight. I like to use the toners only overnight as to not strip the face of important oils, however if you have a very oily skin using toners AM and PM will be beneficial.
This toner just has so many great ingredients to exfoliate and even out the skin tone. It is also my go-to night time toner!
Yet another Glycolic acid toner. These are so great as they are packed with so many antioxidants and extracts, and most importantly are alcohol-free!
Okay ladies, moving on to serums. Serums are like that magical liquid that helps our skin to absorb all the good ingredients. Depending on your skin concern, it penetrates the skin better than other solutions as it is composed of much smaller molecules and has a higher concentration of active ingredients.
This is my to-go night time serum. It is packed with retinol so it helps to smooth out wrinkles and even out skin tone.
Alright, let's take care of the eyes as we tend to get smile wrinkles and forget that that delicate skin needs extra attention and hydration. Good eye cream is a must in your skincare routine–depending on your skin concern of course.
This under eye saviour has an orange hue to it to autocorrect dark circles as well as hydrate and de-puff. A good perk is that you do not need a lot of it in order to achieve results.
Oh, my... do I love this eye cream! It melts into your skin and leaves the eye area so hydrated and revived. I love to leave it in the fridge and apply it when its cold to de-puff the eye area.
Now here comes the part we all know too well: moisturizers and creams. Since the serums cannot provide enough moisture because of all the concentrated ingredients, we have to apply a moisturizer to make sure our skin is completely hydrated. There are so many different moisturizers that have a very light and very rich consistency. I usually have a light gel-like moisturizer for summertime and a richer, heavier one for winter.
Literally the only cream I use lately. It is so light yet so powerful. Every time I apply it I feel like I got an injection of hydrating super nutrients–hence the name, The Water Cream.
This is a good option if you do not want to spend too much on a cream, but yet want it to perform well. It has no perfume so it won't irritate your skin, moreover, it has SPF–so if you are the type who forgets to apply SPF this is a great option.
Well ladies, that was the small guide for a proper skincare application by yours truly. There are so many products out there so please don't be afraid to experiment! After all, Sephora has great return policy.
I have only made some suggestions that work for me, but please remember your skin changes and some products that worked for so long can become ineffective!
I hope this was helpful for all the lovely mamas out here–till next time!
Xoxo, Anastasiya
