In my life I’ve been many things: thin, fat, fit, but my favourite by a country mile is being a mummy.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t days where I look at my body and wish it wasn’t as squishy or didn’t stick out as much in clothes.
Here is my guide on how to learn to love your postpartum body:
- Unfollow accounts that make you sad
Especially ones that preach that you can get abs and a flat stomach like theirs ‘if you want it hard enough’. I personally only follow accounts that I love. I don’t follow celebrities that are promoting an unhealthy, unattainable lifestyle and neither should you!
- Look at yourself in the mirror
Your body grew a baby-- an entire baby: their arms, their legs, their eyeballs, even their brain! We need to give that body a break, it’s gotten you through having a baby as well as those sleepless nights that come with that, and that’s hardcore!
- Make small goals
If you do want to change your body then you should set small goals. Don’t push yourself to go from a size 16 to a 12 by summer-- pushing yourself too hard and too fast will only cause you to burn out and most of the time, lose whatever progress you made in the process. Instead, set smaller goals such as taking the stairs over taking the lift or eating healthier snacks such as fruit instead of sweets.
- Measure success by how your clothes fit, not by what you look like
Unfortunately, contrary to what Susan on Instagram that sells some herbal rubbish told you, it’s really hard to get abs! It isn’t something everyone can achieve and you’ve got to have really low body fat to achieve it!
- Wear some high-waisted trousers
I love my body in high-waisted anything... tuck it in, pull it up and off you go!
- Say something positive about your body every day
Your subconscious is always listening and even if you don’t mean it at first, soon you will come to realize how amazing you are!
- Change your mindset
I’ve been skinny and I’ve been in shape and I still wasn’t happy; always wanting a little bit more off here or to tone there. I’m the happiest I’ve been because I’ve got everything I ever wanted in life! Having a positive mindset is the most important thing when it comes to self-acceptance.
With all this, it's important to remember that happiness is a journey and joy a destination-- nobody is always happy but by making a conscious effort to be kinder to yourself you’ll begin to learn to love yourself! And please also remember that your worth isn't determined by how many likes you receive on social media.
